Wilson Harris Issue
Dear Jcls Contributors, Readers and Subscribers:
This special issue on Wilson Harris is the result of the inspiration and hard work of Dr. Hena Maes-Jelinek, of the Universite de Liege, Belgium. It is through her personal acquaintance with Mr. Harris, her long-time scholarly pursuits with his many and varied works, and her dedication to excellence that this issue was made possible. Dr. Jelinek is recognized as the foremost authority on the works of Harris, and this issue is a testimony to that fact. The many contributors have indicated to me as the general editor of this issue and the Chief Editor of the journal that without her inspiration and encouragement, their articles would not have been possible. I am endebted to her, therefore, not only for all of the hard work which goes into being the Guest Editor of an issue so large as this, but also for her skill in ensuring that the material was of high quality and that it reached my office in a timely fashion.
These acknowledgments should have been included in the regular issue, but for reasons which are too numerous to delineate, it did not happen. I take full responsiblity for that omission, however, and want Dr. Jelinek to know how much I regret that such an acknowledgement did not occur with the published issue. I am pleased that her hard work resulted in the Harris issue, one which was long overdue on a writer of Harris's stature. It is safe to say that her editorship was equal to the task of honoring him.
